It’s a known fact that many Autumns Eyes songs feature a heavy amount of gory detail skewing the line between macabre and masochistic. Some of them are more obvious than others, and these are five songs which leave little to the imagination where fear and vengeance are concerned.

Swimming the Witch

From the album In a Sense

Taking a page from history, this track depicts the horrific tactic used centuries ago in order to distinguish ordinary people from servants of the devil. The method of swimming a so called witch supposedly revealed demonic dealings when the body would float to the surface. It was believed that water would reject minions of the dark lord whereas truer spirits would sink like a stone.

Zombie Vanity

From the album In a Sense

As if having your inner organs ripped out of your body while eating maggots wasn’t bad enough, the twisted psychopath in the forefront of this song also forces his victim to feed on the bones of loved ones who were previously slain. It also seems the madman is amused by his work as he hides behind a smile that breathes hideous laughter.

Seeded With Vengeance

From the album The Awakening of the Sleeping King

This song is featured on an album which follows an ongoing theme of split personalities, and a story that’s narrated from both the inside and out. Having said that, it gives new meaning to what ordinarily would appear as a standard song about torturing someone. It’s a strong look inside a very demented soul who’s dual personas are at dangerous odds with one another.

Whats Left of Flesh

From the album Surrender the Fire

Without question the most gruesome track in the Autumns Eyes catalogue, this song depicts a blood soaked arsenal of horrific behavior which is all focused onto one unlucky recipient. One of the more brutal endeavors has razor blades being placed between the victims teeth and having their jaw forced shut.

Haunting Your Daughter

From the album Please Deceive Me

Taking aim at stuck up goth girls, this track exposes the filthy brats for what they truly are while giving them a dose of their own darkness. The song is a fan favorite with a music video on the horizon, and features a mix of heavy metal with eighties inspired horror movie synths.

Sometimes we tend to see thru the lyrics of a song and look directly at whatever image the music itself paints in our mind. In these cases I’m sure it’s not such a bad thing, unless of course you’re a fan of having horrible nightmares.

“You claim the pain in your life was the worst; after me, you’ll wish that death had captured you first.” I love that line! Also the part in “What’s left of Flesh” about dragging the victom in barb wire across gravil or somthing like that. Brutiful.
