A new music video for the title track off Autumns Eyes’ latest release “Please Deceive Me” is due out very soon. In honor of the new video I wanted to share a couple of my favorite metal music videos of all time. Lets get started!
MESHUGGAH – Bleed
So Ill admit, you could set almost anything to this song and it would be fucking amazing. The song is so insanely powerful and evil, that it completely drives whatever imagery you slap in front of it. Fortunately the imagery is just as dark as the song itself, where we get a haunting look at the progression of a human becoming a vicious demon.
Cradle of Filth – From The Cradle To Enslave
Demons, devils, midgets, vampires, and naked goth girls. Not that I need to try and do this video description any more justice, but you can’t deny this creepy clips ability to quench your bloodlust. While the song was released right at the beginning of COFs dramatic career twists and turns, the video is by far the best we got from the British Bastards at that point.
Type O Negative - I Don’t Wanna Be Me
While there are several TON entries I could select for this list, this is one of the more underrated videos from the fearsome four from Brooklyn. The video does a really good job at capturing the bands sense of humor, while maintaining their dark sonic sensibility. Something which they have always portrayed in their music, but occasionally struggled with in their videos.
Metallica - One
Growing up as a young metal fan in the 80s, it was rare to see some of the really heavy videos on MTV during the day. You either had to sneak by your parents rules and stay up late for Headbangers Ball, or maybe see a video tape one of your friends recorded. Regardless, any time this video came on the television, everything else in the world was tuned out. Metallica didn’t have all the clout that comes with the band today, and there was no internet to spread rumors of their disgust. They just had really fucking heavy music, and the video for “One” was the best look at their heavy attitude mixed with a really fucked up and captivating storyline.
Tool – Sober
When this video came out, everything changed. You never saw anything like it, and it creeped everyone out. The stop motion characters, the meat flowing through the pipe, and most notably the lack of seeing the band. Tool came on to the metal map with one of the best introductions ever, that being you never knew who they were. The only way you could catch a glimpse was at a live show, or maybe in a magazine if you were lucky. Having such a mysterious image to the band only fueled intrigue into what they were all about. A very unique aspect for a band to maintain, and something you rarely see anymore with so many bands wanting to give you everything all at once. Tool gave you a taste, and always had you wanting more.
So that’s five of my favorites. I could easily go on for another hundred or so, but Ill leave that up to you to discuss in the comments below!
